Adult Confirmation Often times, and for various reasons, some women and men who are practicing Catholics were not confirmed either as a youth or young adult. Those that were not confirmed earlier in life often find themselves seeking greater unity with the church later in life. The Church of Saint Richard deeply values those that yearn to share more fully in the life of this faith community and the global church. For this reason, Saint Richard offers an ongoing program for adults seeking the sacrament of confirmation. Throughout the year, adult candidates are challenged to engage in active participation in the life of community through the celebration of Eucharist and service and ministry experiences. Furthermore, candidates will participate in formation sessions tailored to meet them wherever they find themselves in their faith journey as they seek confirmation. The actual liturgical celebration of confirmation is celebrated on Sundays throughout the year at Mass. Those who were baptized in the Catholic or Protestant tradition, but not raised in the Catholic faith, may find the RCIA process more appropriate than adult confirmation. This is decided through conversation between the candidate for confirmation and the director of liturgy. Those not baptized in any Christian tradition enter into the Catholic faith through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Faith journeys, while supported and celebrated in community, are personal experiences and no two journeys look alike. Please contact Travis Salisbury, director of liturgy and RCIA coordinator, to discern what process best fits your journey to relationship with Christ and the Church. Please remember that questioning is part of the faith process. There is no obligation or pressure to make any kind of commitment to a process or program. Inquiry into the faith is always most welcome! |
