Keep it siimple, stupid, is one of those expressions that we all know, and it is good advice. The expression comes to mind in the context of today's Gospel (Lk 10: 1-12) in which Jesus sends out the 72 disciples in groups of 2 to the various towns and villages which Jesus is planning to visit. Jesus' instructions are a model of simplicity-- don't take anything but the basics, don't move around unnecessarily, eat what is put in front of you. Focus on the mission, He is saying, and get rid of all the other distractions which might come your way. Don't even talk to anyone on your journey. We might think about applying those instructions to our lives these days. How often we get distracted, pushed off course, by things that aren't really necessary. Do we need all the stuff which has to be monitored, mended, stored? Do we have to check on so many social media sites and do so as often as we do? Is the class or trip or event really something we need to do? Our life with Jesus can truly be very simple-- prayer in the morning, maybe a check-in during the day, a momentary acknowledgement of the beauty we see in God's world, a recollection of the gifts we have received. The more we focus just on Jesus, and set aside all the clutter, the easier it becomes. KISS!
