ACME Tuckpointing & Restoration has been busy moving around our building over the last several weeks removing and replacing bricks. As you recall, they estimated it would take around 10,000 bricks to complete the project.
Unfortunately, they have uncovered a couple of areas where removing adjacent bricks has caused additional ones to fail, so we actually need to replace an entire section. After a review from a structural engineer, we have determined that we need to replace an additional 1,000 bricks, as well as install some additional steel supports. This is leading to an 8% cost overrun, equaling approximately $22,500 on the project.
In addition, the Facilities and Capital Improvement Steering Committees have begun their work in planning for next summer’s remodel of the Social Hall. Due to the age of our facility, all the flooring in the Social Hall, gym and stage areas have asbestos. We are in the process of soliciting and reviewing three different bids for this necessary removal, but we expect it to cost approximately $40,000 (25% of the $160,000 originally budgeted for the Social Hall remodel). Unfortunately, this will limit funds for other improvements to that space, so we will need to forgo some items on our wish list.
The good news is that we are doing very well on pledges fulfilled to-date, so our cash flow is keeping up with our project timeline. Thank you to the many generous donors who have already fulfilled their total pledges for this three year campaign!
