In today's passage from Mark's Gospel (Mk 6: 30-34) the Apostles have returned from their first missionary journeys, and report to jesus what they have done and taught. I am sure Jesus was interested in their report, but it seems like He was most interested in their well-being. "You guys look really tired," He more-or-less says. "Go take some time off. Take a break." Whether they actually get a break isn't completely clear, since after Jesus and the Twelve head off by boat to the deserted place, the crowd sees them, follows them, and meets them as they land. So perhaps all of them are back on duty dealing with the needs of the people. But I say it isn't completely clear because Mark only says that Jesus is "moved weith pity for them" and begins to "teach them many things." No mention that the Twelve continued to teach. Is the omission deliberate? Does Mark intend that we conclude the Twelve actually got a rest? Perhaps. It would certainly be consistent with Jesus' behavior that He look out for the Apostles in that way, giving them a rest while He continues the teaching. Who in your life needs to "rest a while?" Perhaps it is you, and you think you don't have time to rest. The Twelve probably thought that too, but Jesus knew better. Follow His teaching and figure out a way to get a break. Or maybe it is someone close to you that you can see needs a rest. Follow Jesus' example and suggest that they take one. Help them make it happen. Do what jesus did and take on their work yourself if you can. Part of being a follower of Christ is knowing when to share someone else's load, and when it is time to take a break.
