Welcome Fr. David Shaw to our Richfield parishes.
Fr. Shaw was ordained in Portland, Ore., in 2006 and has served in two different parishes for six years as a priest. He also most recently taught high school theology for 10 years.
“I am originally from South Bend, Indiana, and am from a family of four children,” he said. “My family was a part of a Christian community, which came from the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, called the People of Praise. I joined the celibate group of men of that community, called the Brotherhood, which is the community that I live in now. The Brotherhood has both lay celibate men and clergy.”
Fr. David said that when people ask him about moving to Minnesota, he tells them he’s looking forward to the snow, having grown up in the Midwest. But he also tells them to “wait and see” how he feels about the cold and snow after experiencing a Minnesota winter.
“I am looking forward to serving in the parishes of St. Richard, St. Peter, and the Church of the Assumption working together with the Lord to build God’s kingdom,” he said.
Fr. Shaw won’t waste any time getting started. His first day with us is Tuesday, July 5, and he’ll be celebrating 8 a.m. Mass at St. Richard that morning.
