If you have been around St. Richard's Catholic Church at noon on any weekday, you may have heard the bells ring and seen people entering the chapel to honor an ancient tradition. When we pray our customary Angelus here, though, we close with the Prayer of St. Richard of Chichester, in honor of our parish's patron saint. Pick up a prayer card at the door and join us!
℣. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, ℟. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
℣. Behold the handmaid of the LORD. ℟. Be it done unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary...
℣. And the Word was made flesh. ℟. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary...
℣. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. ℟. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
℣. Let us pray [at this point, the practice at St. Richard's Catholic Church varies from the traditional recitation] ℟. Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ for all the benefits that you have given us; for all the pains and insults that you have borne for us. O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen.
℣. [all bow] Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit ℟. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
