Edwin “Ed” Joseph Brechon, 76, of Inver Grove Heights passed away on October 12, 2016. Ed was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and cherished his family above all else.
Ed was born Edwin Joseph Brechon on September 6, 1940 in Dixon, Illinois, the oldest of six children born to Margaretta and Edward Brechon. Raised in the Catholic faith, he attended Newman Central Catholic High School, Class of 1958 in Sterling, Illinois and received a political science degree from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. On August 11, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Melissa Reuter and raised five daughters. Anyone he met heard about each of his daughters and their accomplishments, whether they wanted to or not. After a long career in finance, he retired from General Electric in 2006. He had a lifelong love of anything to do with baseball, especially his favorite team, the New York Yankees. He loved vintage cars, garage sales and was the only person we knew who read every single article in a newspaper in its’ entirety. He was a friend of Bill W. and proud of his 44 years of sobriety.
Ed is survived by the mother of his daughters and the love of his life, Melissa Reuter Brechon, his daughters; Michelle Brechon, Annette (Steve) Kuyper, Janelle (Dave) Brechon, Suzette (John) Bielinski and Nicolle (Chris) Rogers, 8 grandchildren; Jared (Melissa) Kuyper, Jerame (Cassi) Kuyper, Myriah Bielinski, Alisha and Anna Brechon, Tara Brechon, Lucas and Tessa Rogers, 3 great grandchildren; Connor, Tyler and Hannah Kuyper, 3 siblings; Mary (Larry) Wallin, Marcella (Tom) Kitson and Marty (Jean) Brechon; sister- in- law, Margaret Brechon and many special nieces and nephews.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaretta Brechon and brothers, Richard and John Brechon. We know he has had a happy reunion with all of them whom he loved so much. We also know the brothers are fighting over their mothers’ homemade cinnamon rolls since they always claimed she saved the best for him!
The family would like to thank Dr. Tanya Van Hee at Park Nicollet Medical Center and Ann Thole and her staff, especially Amber and Pete at Shaller Family Sholom East Campus in St Paul for their compassionate and exemplary care of our Dad!
