Betsy has been a member of our staff part-time since 2002. She plans and implements music for our all parish liturgies, plays piano and organ for most of those liturgies, trains and schedules cantors and other musicians, as well as directing the choir for the 9:00am Mass and the ensemble for the 11:00am Mass.
You can find Betsy at St. Richard for weekend, holy day, and school Masses, special events like Taizé prayer, and in her office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In addition to her part-time (20 hours a week) work at St. Richard, Betsy sings professionally with the Minnesota Chorale, which performs regularly with the Minnesota Orchestra. She also teaches voice lessons and a few classes to seminarians at the St. Paul Seminary.
Betsy grew up in Richfield, attending Assumption (one of the three schools that merged to form Blessed Trinity) and Holy Angels. Betsy is a proud Bennie and a Johnnie, with an undergrad degree from the College of St. Benedict and a graduate degree from St. John’s University.
She is married to Mike Barrett, who plays guitar at the 9:00am Mass. Betsy and Mike have two grown sons, who you may have seen playing trumpet and trombone for Christmas or Easter.
