Members of our parish are working with Catholic Charities and the New American Services project to help two refugee families get settled in our area. One of these is a Somali family and then other is a Karen family.
Many of us in in the Twin Cities area are familiar with the fallout of the ongoing violence in Somali that has caused so many families to seek refuge in Minnesota. The plight of the Karen people (ethnic minorities from Myanmar, f/k/a Burma) is less well-known, but Minnesota is home to thousands of Karen people, many of whom spent years living in refugee camps in Thailand before being admitted to the U.S.
See the list below of items being collected to help these two families furnish their new homes. We have extended the collection period through May 7. Thank you to everyone who has participated already!
